Asymptotic behavior of mixture failure rates

چکیده
Mixtures of increasing failure rate distributions (IFR) can decrease at least in some intervals of time. Usually this property is observed asymptotically as ∞ → t , which is due to the fact that a mixture failure rate is ‘bent down’, as the weakest populations are dying out first. We consider a survival model, generalizing a very well known in reliability and survival analysis additive hazards, proportional hazards and accelerated life models. We obtain new explicit asymptotic relations for a general setting and study specific cases. Under reasonable assumptions we prove that asymptotic behavior of the mixture failure rate depends only on the behavior of the mixing distribution in the neighborhood of the left end point of its support and not on the whole mixing distribution.

Asymptotic Analysis of Binary Gas Mixture Separation by Nanometric Tubular Ceramic Membranes: Cocurrent and Countercurrent Flow Patterns
Analytical gas-permeation models for predicting the separation process across membranes (exit compositions and area requirement) constitutes an important and necessary step in understanding the overall performance of membrane modules. But, the exact (numerical) solution methods suffer from the complexity of the solution. Therefore, solutions of nonlinear ordinary differential equations th...
متن کاملUnderstanding the Shape of the Mixture Failure Rate (with Engineering and Demographic Applications)
Mixtures of distributions are usually effectively used for modeling heterogeneity. It is well known that mixtures of DFR distributions are always DFR. On the other hand, mixtures of IFR distributions can decrease, at least in some intervals of time. As IFR distributions often model lifetimes governed by ageing processes, the operation of mixing can dramatically change the pattern of ageing. The...
متن کاملRELIABILITY MEASURES AND SENSITIVITY ANALYSIS OF A COMPLEX MATRIX SYSTEM INCLUDING POWER FAILURE
This paper investigates the reliability characteristics of a complex system having nine subsystems arranged in the form of 3x3 matrix in which each row contains three subsystems. The configuration of the row is of the type 2-out-of-3: F. Each subsystem has n units connected in series. The system fails if any one row containing three subsystems fails. The considered system analyzed incorporating...
متن کاملAdmissible mixing distributions for a general class of mixture survival models with known asymptotics.
Statistical analysis of data on the longest living humans leaves room for speculation whether the human force of mortality is actually leveling off. Based on this uncertainty, we study a mixture failure model, introduced by Finkelstein and Esaulova (2006) that generalizes, among others, the proportional hazards and accelerated failure time models. In this paper we first, extend the Abelian theo...
